Frequently Asked Questions about Narcoterror

1. Who did what?

Parmenator-X: Saarang electronic tambura manipulations, bass, vocals, keyboards
Ajda, the Lone Star of the East: flute, vocals
Joe: guitar, percussion, engineering
Michael: guitars
Timothy McVeins - inspiration
Osama bin Laudanum - atmosphere

2. Is it a band?

Sort of. It was originally intended as a project with a definite lifespan and a flexible lineup of musicians/performers. But lately it seems to have turned into an actual band with a stable line-up and ever-expanding repertoire.

3. Are these songs autobiographical or about real people?

No.

4. What's the story behind Gently Johnny/Electric Mainline?

This song combines Paul Giovanni's arrangement of the traditional Gently Johnny from the soundtrack to The Wicker Man with the Jason Spaceman (Spiritualized® ) song Electric Mainline. I happened to notice that the two songs had a similar 3/4 time and were both built around a G drone. Once blended, additional lyrics suggested themselves, some of which came from earlier, similar songs. Paul Giovanni is thought to have died of AIDS sometime in the early nineties. I think that he was an unsung genius of weird folk music who is only now getting his due. His music made an early and lasting impression on me.

5. What about A Maid That's Deep in Love?

It's a rewrite of the traditional song of the same name with a slight nod to the Pentangle version.

6. The lyrics to Farewell Nancy sound sort of familiar, but not quite right somehow. What's up with that?

It borrows some lyrics from the song Too Close to the Wind by Stuart Marson, which I know through the Fairport Convention arrangment; but this version also seems to owe something to the traditional Pretty Nancy of Yarmouth. Our arrangment bears little relation to any version of either song you might have heard. It is also, as far as I know, the only song to ever mention Naloxone.
